The Washington Nationals dropped their eleventh straight game on Tuesday night when they visited the Philadelphia Phillies. The 5-4 loss drops the Nationals to 44-82, they have the worst record in baseball.
Jason Bergmann started the game on the mound for the Nationals and didn’t factor in the decision. He threw 6.1 innings and gave up three earned runs. He didn’t walk a single batter and struck out four. Steven Shell gave up a homer in the 8th to Jayson Werth to take the loss for Washington.
The Nationals took a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning after a Ryan Zimmerman triple and a Ronnie Belliard single. Belliard led the Nationals with four hits in four at bats. Willie Harris hit second and collected two hits.
The Nationals and Phillies will play again on Wednesday night. Colin Balester is scheduled to start for Washington. Game time is 7:05pm.
