Nationals See Winning Streak End

by @ 2:24 pm. Filed under 2008 Nationals

The Washington Nationals saw their modest four game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night in Colorado.  The Rockies got to the Washington bullpen and won the game 8-2.  The Nationals record on the season dropped to 42-71.

John Lannan started for Washington, and as usual he was very sharp.  Lannan threw seven innings and gave up only two earned runs.  He also struck out eight batters and lowered his ERA on the season to 3.55.  Unfortunately for Lannan, he wasn’t able to factor in the decision.  Luis Ayala and Charlie Manning each got one out but they also each gave up three earned runs and let the Rockies blow them out of the water.  Ayala took the loss.

After six innings the Nationals led 2-0.  They got their first run in the second inning on a Jesus Flores sacrifice fly.  Ryan Langerhans scored in the fifth inning on a wild pitch.  Austin Kearns and Ronnie Belliard each had two hits for the Nationals.

These two clubs play again on Wednesday night.  Odalis Perez is set to start for Washington.  Game time is 9:05pm.
