Nats Drop Fourth Straight Game

by @ 3:54 pm. Filed under 2008 Nationals

The Washington Nationals continued their free fall on Monday against the San Francisco Giants.  The Nationals lost their fourth straight game by losing 3-2 at the hands of Matt Cain and the Giants.  The loss drops the Nationals to 25-40 as they have lost eight of their last nine games.

Tyler Clippard was called up for the game to make a spot start, he was sent down immediately following the game.  He lasted 4.1 innings and gave up all three runs to the Giants.  He was impressive in striking out six batters over his outing but did walk four batters.  The bullpen pieced together 4.2 innings of no hit baseball to keep the game close.

Cristian Guzman and Dmitri Young led the Nationals offense with two hits a piece.  The Nats got their first run in the fourth inning on a Jesus Flores sac fly.  They scored again in the 8th inning on a throwing error by the Giants catcher, Lastings Milledge scored that second and final run.

The Nationals are glad to be done with the Giants who just swept them.  The Nationals will head to Pittsburgh to start a series with them on Tuesday.  Tim Redding is set to start the opener for the Nationals.  Game time is 7:05pm.
