The Washington Nationals finally stopped their latest losing streak at 12 games. They defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday by a score of 4-3. The win not only stops the streak it moves their record to 45-83.
Tim Redding started on the hill for the Nationals and was very sharp. Redding went six innings and gave up only three hits and one run during his time on the mound. Redding also struck out five batters but did not factor in the decision. Saul Rivera got the win and Joel Hanrahan got the save.
Trailing 3-2 in the 8th inning, the Nationals tied the game on a Jesus Flores RBI single. They took the lead later the inning when Austin Kearns singled in the game winning run that put the Nats up 4-3. The top three batters in the Washington lineup all each had two hits.
Washington will now head to Chicago to take on the Chicago Cubs. John Lannan is scheduled to start the series opener tomorrow. Game time is 2:20pm.
