After getting rained out last night in Colorado, the Washington Nationals took both games of today’s double header. Believe it or not, the Nats actually won both games by the same score, 6-3. They got some solid pitching and the offense got things going a bit to carry them to the wins. They are now 44-71 this season.
In game one, Sean Bergmann got the start. Bergmann was terrific as he lasted seven innings and gave up only one earned run. Bergmann has had some tough luck losses this season and this win moved his record to 2-8. Joel Hanrahan came on in the ninth inning to pick up the save. Lastings Milledge got the Nationals on the board in fifth inning with a solo home run. He homered again in the sixth inning. All told, Milledge went 3-4 with 4 RBI and the two homers.
Game two saw Odalis Perez start and win. Perez has had some tough luck himself this season but went six strong today and gave up only two runs. He scattered six hits in moving his record to 5-8. Again, Joel Hanrahan came on in the ninth to close out the game. He now has three saves this season. Milledge was a force in this game as well as he went 2-5 with an RBI, no homers though. Willie Harris went 2-4 with a pair of RBI to help the Nationals pick up the win.
Washington will stay on the road for the weekend as they take on the Milwaukee Brewers. Collin Balester is scheduled to start for the Nationals. Game time is 8:05pm.
