The Washington Nationals played the role of spoiler on Wednesday night as they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in Washington DC. The 5-4 win moves the Nationals record to 48-85 on the season.
Tim Redding started on the mound for Washinton and pitched well enough to pick up his ninth win of the season against eight losses. He threw six innings and gave up three runs on eight hits. All of the Dodgers runs against Redding came on solo homers. Joel Hanrahan pitched the ninth inning to pick up the save.
Ryan Zimmerman hit a solo homer for the Nationals and scored two runs to help pace the Washington offense. Cristian Guzman and Emilio Bonifacio led the team with two hits each. Every Nationals starter had at least one hit except for Jesus Flores who still managed to drive in a run.
The Nats and Dodgers will wrap up their series on Thursday night.
