The Skinny: Tim Redding was sharp once again and helped lead the Washington Nationals to a 5-3 win over the New York Mets on Wednesday night. The win brings the Nationals record to 17-24.
The Pitching: Redding started the ballgame and lasted six innings, picking up his fifth win of the season. In his six innings, Redding gave up only one earned run struck out four. Saul Rivera came on after Redding and promptly coughed up a couple of runs to make things interesting. Washington brought in Jon Rauch to get the final four outs and did so without allowing any more runs to score.
The Batting: The Nationals sewed this game up with a four run seventh inning. They again were very efficient with their hits as they scored their five runs on only six hits. Felipe Lopez with the only player with two hits. Cristian Guzman delivered the big blow for the Nationals with a two run single in that seventh inning.
What’s Next?: The Nationals will finish off their series with the Mets tomorrow before heading back home to take on the Orioles in some inter-league baseball. Game time is 1:10pm and Jason Bergmann will get the start for the Nationals.
