Now that we are a couple of weeks into Spring Training, let’s take a lot at who is performing well for the Nationals so far:
- Ronnie Belliard is picking up where he left off last season when he revitalized his career in DC. So far this spring Belliard is hitting .500 (10-20) with 2 HR and 5 RBI.
- Cristian Guzman is raking as well as he is 11-25 (.440).
- Newly acquired Lastings Milledge is hitting .367 this spring and has shown some speed on the base paths with 5 steals already to go with his team leading 7 RBI.
- Future star Ryan Zimmerman is hitting a healthy .353 with seven RBI as well. He also has a double and two home runs.
- That Nationals bullpen has thrown pretty well as whole. Ayala, Cordero and Jon Rauch, three main stays from last season have thrown a combined nine innings and have allowed only two hits and zero runs.
Odds are Guzman and Belliard won’t hit quite that well once the regular season starts but it’s certainly a good sign that they are swinging so well now. If the Nats can get that kind of production out of their middle infield they’ll have to be very pleased.
