Washington Wins Pitchers Duel

by @ 7:18 pm. Filed under 2008 Nationals

The Washington Nationals took out the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night in Washington DC.  The Dodgers are playing for a playoff spot and the Nationals are playing the role of spoiler.  The Nats won 2-1 and are now 47-85 on the season.

Rookie Collin Balester made possibly his best start of the season as he picked up his third win of the season.  Balester got through only five innings but allowed only five hits and one run.  He didn’t strike out a single batter.  Four Nationals relievers threw an inning each and didn’t allow any runs.

The Nationals got on the board in the second inning on a Lastings Milledge solo home run.  They went up 2-0 in the third inning when Cristian Guzman singled in a run.  Guzman accounted for half of the Nationals hit total as he smacked three singles.

The Nationals and the Dodgers will go at it again on Wednesday night.  Tim Redding is scheduled to start against Greg Maddux.
